2016 AMA Awards Nominees

Port Harcourt is the place to be as the 2016 Africa Movie Academy Awards holds tonight, the 11th of June, 2016.

According to Vanguard, the Garden city of Port Harcourt is bubbling with life at the moment. It’s AMAA night, and all roads will lead to the Obi Wali International Conference Centre, Port Harcourt, venue of the prestigious awards night, which is designed to celebrate the best of the best in African film sect
With movie stars and film makers from over 40 countries of the continent and beyond already looking forward to the event, you don’t expect anything less than the best tonight. If you are residing in the oil-rich city and act early enough, it’s possible for you to be on the red carpet, watching the celebrity arrivals and catching a glimpse of the razzmatazz that is associated with the event; the head turns, the glamour, the whispers and the fashion show among side attractions. The red carpet event is expected to kick off around 7 pm, as the celebrities will take turns to display their latest wardrobe acquisition.

Lai Mohammed, Nigeria’s Minister for Information and Culture, is set to lead a Federal Government delegation to the event.

As show hosts, the award event will feature  Jon Germain, actor, Mike Ezeuronye, and Kgopedi Lioane, a South African radio personality.

Mr. Tony Anih, the Director of Administration of AMAA, in a statement said the 2016 edition is the 12 time the event has been held.

The AMAA nomination list was announced yesterday evening at the Protea Hotel, Ikeja – Lagos, Nigeria by the AMAA Jury President Husseini Shaibu.

The African Movie Academy Awards, popularly known as AMAA and The AMA Awards (and fondly dubbed ‘The African Oscars’), are presented annually to recognize excellence of professionals in the film industry
. Founded by Peace Anyiam-Osigwe and run through the Africa Film Academy. The awards are aimed at honoring and promoting excellence in the African movie industry as well as uniting the African continent through arts and culture. The award presentation is attended by numerous media executives, celebrities, politicians, journalists, actresses and actors from all across the world. The AMA awards are widely considered to be Africa’s most important film event and the most prestigious film award in Africa.
