“Deck the halls with boughs and holly.. Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la“. It’s 3 days to Christmas. Boy, am I busy. There’s always an errand to run, deadline to meet, diaper to change, calories to burn. Pheeewww! I never knew December would get back its relevance in my life. The Christmas season is one I look forward to as a child but as I became an adult, Christmas started looking like just another ordinary day. Well, it’s back on the spotlight ‘coz in this month, I always celebrate my Wedding Anniversary. We’ve clocked 4! “Praii…praiii..praiiissssssse dai Lord!“, hollered one lady while we kissed after I sang a Whitney Houston’s song to hubby on this day. The woman was in the shpirit while I was carnally kissing hubby. We can churcherize everything ehhnn?. Anyway, it’s been good and it’s been God. Then, my daughter’s birthday is also marked in December. Celebrating 3 years of God’s faithfulness and 3 years of trying to figure out the mind of a child….…and though my Son’s birthday falls on the 3rd of January, I start planning his gig from this month, besides, he’s part of her gig. So much to do in so little time that I can barely sit leisurely. And lest I forgot, I just did my official photoshoot for the blog. I needed some official photos so I had to put an effort to it. That effort translated to 1 hour of make up application, two hours of photoshoot. *rolls eyes* Boy, I was beat. Here I am in my karishika mode.I took some selfies while on set and I loved the look though I couldn’t recognize myself. Follow me on instagram to see some behind-the-scenes. Can’t wait to see the finished work. Now you see why it’s been tough to publish posts regularly.?
Anyway, in the midst of all these activities, I try to learn some hidden lessons in our daily lives. Here are some few lessons that hit me recently, though it might have been taught many times, this time it came more alive and I’m so running with it.
- Declutter!!!: I used to think I declutter but 80% of the time, I hold on to stuff that honestly, I don’t need. Probably just cos it leaves a memory, or I can’t get over the money I spent on that item, or I hope I’d finally fit into that dress or that accessory would come back in style. Recently, I took time out to declutter my closet in every sense of the word and it felt really good, seeing what you need and what you don’t need. Now the lesson: Are you in a rut? A bad relationship? A bad habit? And you find yourself going back to that ‘closet with a pile of clothings’? Please Declutter! What do I mean? Let it go…let it go…can’t hold it back anymore ?. Sorry, was having my ‘Frozen’ moment there. But honestly, let it go! If you are afraid of what people would say, if you left that bad relationship or bad friends or that unworthy job, then you are not living for you. Guess who they would be talking about if you stayed….Still you! So just do you, boo. Live fearlessly and take a bold step to your freedom. Declutter! Detox all those Ogbanje symptoms in your life. You don’t need to go to “Mountain of Fire” to make some changes in your life. Sometimes, all you just need is a “I’m done for good” moment. When you let go of all the ‘unnecessaries’, you’d finally have room for blessings to come and dwell in. Take charge of your life and start a new page. God’s mercies are new every morning and He daily loads us with benefits. Take advantage of this opportunity.
- Be Patient with God: I recently found my Son always going to a spot at the edge of the bed. He gets there and feels so cool with himself. And everytime he tries settling in there, I pick him up and move him to the middle of the bed. This lil’ dude cries and throw tantrums for that single act I do. So it got me thinking, this is how we act when we want God to do things our way. I was totally protecting my son from falling but he totally thought I was kill-joy. Lesson: As 2017 comes, you might make resolutions, set goals and want to attain them. Yes! Make sure you strive towards that but Always trust God to handle your business. He knows best. If things don’t go staccato-style as you planned, don’t fret. He just might be saving you from the catastrophe tied to your own definition of success or blessing. Trust God!!! His timing is best.
- He feeds the birds, He’ll take care of you: There’s a habit I have since I started having kids. When I plan a shopping spree for me, I go to the store and end up buying things for the kids. I found out I barely buy for myself but somehow every thing I need just comes to me. Sometimes God uses people to give you those things you lack. I’ve got awesome sisters-in-Law but there’s this one in particular who is officially my Santa Claus. I don’t know how she does it, somehow she gives me stuff I’ve been craving but not even spoken out loud. It is scary. Yesterday, she handed to me casually, a package and in there was the same material, style and color I craved to have. I knew on my own, I’d pass that same material and buy kids stuff, except a gun was put to my head to buy it. Anyway, I just wan tell una say my Krismos don set. This last point might sound vain or trivial but I just feel deeply God takes care of me in these little things, how much more, big things. So worry less, my brethren and sistren. A song in my head from the scripture says, “Therefore I tell you. Do not be anxious about your life. What you shall eat, drink or put on your body. The birds of the air neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns but your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not more valuable than these?”
So people, these are my thoughts to you. I know how exciting entering a new year is. In that excitement we set goals but don’t give up if things don’t go as planned. Declutter!…Be patient with God!…He will take care of you! Somebothy shout harllerluryar! Offeringggg timeee!
