Producer and singer, Babatunde Okungbowa, who is well known as OJB Jezreel has been reported dead. Last year, the popular music producer talked about how he was down with kidney related disease, and consequently was flown to India for a transplant, two things pre-occupied his mind. They were, the fear of the unknown and that of the mystery of death. But in the mix of these depressing thoughts, OJB did not give up the hope of cheating death. He went through the surgeon’s knife and came off successfully.
After the successful surgery, OJB Jezreel, showered praises on his first wife, Mama J, for being there for him and donating one of her kidneys to save his life.
OJB passes on a month to his 50th birthday. His body has been deposited in a morgue at Isolo General Hospital.
He is survived by three wives, June, Korede, Mabel and eight children.
OJB was the crooner of the hit song “Searching”. A song that was a breath of fresh air to Nigeria’s music industry. He also worked with Port Harcourt’s renowned gospel artist, Ebiere in “Omi olota” . He has a robust discography of his work showcasing his ingenuity in music.
What’s really going on with this serial death news? What’s going on with our health care? They say “death comes in threes.” It could be true when you analyze the death of Nigerian Football legend-Stephen Keshi, ex Nigerian football coach- Amodu Shuaibu and Nigerian artist- OJB Jezreel in the space of one week. This is really sad. I pray for the family to find solace in God. Rest in peace, OJB. I will personally miss your music.
